Native Plant Producers Society of Alberta
The pictures below show the size and root development
of select species at 2 months old. Plant plugs are started in cell packs
with either 72 or 96 plugs per tray. During 2009, we conducted germinating
and growth trials on a variety of native species. The results of these
trials were:
1) The highest rate of germination occurred when both grass and forb seeds were
planted together in a plug compared to single species plantings.
2) The overall health, plant growth vigor and species survivability was also the
highest from those plugs containing both grasses and forbs.
3) Based on these small-scale trials, we will be offering all our native plant
plugs in mixed selections.
